If you’re planning a wedding in Phoenix, Arizona with no idea where to start for wedding design inspiration, look no further than this design at Monroe Street Abbey. The overall direction rooted itself in the beauty of its surroundings through desert hues of warm oranges, soft pinks, lush yellows, and serene greens.

Though I am only an Arizona wedding photographer and my skillset lies in capturing your day in its best light, I have seen a few things that I would pass along when deciding how to design your wedding day based on your location. We’ll use this wedding inspiration shoot as the guiding needle throughout the conversation, but know that the same ideas apply no matter where you’re getting married.

Design With the Color Palette Around You

One of the easiest places to start when designing a wedding is the natural environment around your location.

In Phoenix, that means desert tones. Think warm oranges, dusty pinks, soft greens, and golden yellows — the same colors you see in the landscape, mountains, and desert plants around the city.

For this design, those tones were carried through the florals and tabletop details. Nothing felt forced because the palette already existed in the environment. When colors feel connected to the setting, the entire wedding feels more cohesive without requiring an overly complicated design plan.

This approach works anywhere. If you’re getting married in the mountains, coastal towns, vineyards, or cities, the landscape usually gives you a starting point.

Take Design Inspiration from Your Venue

Another helpful way to approach wedding design is to take cues from the venue and surrounding architecture.

Phoenix venues often have a strong visual identity — adobe textures, historic buildings, desert landscaping, or modern architectural lines. Instead of covering those elements up, the goal should be to complement them.

For this shoot, the planner incorporated the archways of the abbey into the stationery – invitations, seating chart and even the bar menu. Although subtle and at first unnoticeable, the elements all came together in person to tell a cohesive story of the day. A story that works with the space rather than against it. It makes everything feel more natural in photos and in person.

Practical Wedding Planning Tips for an Arizona Wedding

Arizona weddings come with a few logistical considerations that are helpful to think about early in the planning process.

Hire an expert wedding planner.

Phoenix sunlight can be intense, especially in warmer months. Many couples schedule ceremonies closer to sunset so guests are more comfortable and lighting is softer for photos.

Be thoughtful about outdoor comfort.
Shade structures, water stations, or handheld fans can go a long way in keeping guests comfortable during outdoor events.

Choose design elements that hold up in heat.
Certain florals and materials handle warmer temperatures better than others. Your florist and planner will usually guide you here, but it’s worth thinking about when selecting design elements.
