H+J – Coastal Wedding at the Cliff House Resort in Maine

Weddings • December 29, 2022

The coastal wedding of my dreams. This luxury venue nestled atop the cliffs of Southern Maine offers panoramic ocean views for a jaw dropping ceremony and reception. The Cliff House resort is a luxury venue like no other.

With Hannah’s background in event planning and Jason’s goofiness in their relationship, I just knew this wedding day was going to be the perfect balance of elegant and fun. The details of this day were classic and tasteful. They weren’t lacking, but they weren’t over the top. The impeccable scenery that the coast of Maine offers truly doesn’t need much to compliment it. Hannah did the perfect job dreaming this up and Salty & Sweet Events brought the vision to life so flawlessly.

Wedding at the Cliff House Resort

While Hannah and her besties got ready in the Cliff House bridal suite, I created flatlays of her details on the balcony overlooking the water. As she eagerly awaited her first look, she began putting all of those details on – the jewelry, the shoes, the unique scent she chose for this day. Her tight red curls fell so perfectly against the lace details of her minimally elegant gown and then it was time for the big reveal with her soon-to-be husband.

I positioned Jason facing the water while he anxiously awaited his soon-to–be bride coming down the steep steps onto the rigid cliffs. This was where they’d see each other for the first time – privately, in their attire, all done up and ready for the big day. The excitement of seeing each other quickly relieved their anxiousness. After they shared a few moments alone, checking out each other’s outfits and saying hello, we dove right into portraits. We began with a few of the soon-to-be newlyweds against the Bald Head Cliff as the waves crashed in front of them.

Wedding First Looks

Pro tip: Doing a “first look” with your significant other allows you to see each other and take the edge off before your ceremony. Not only do you get to share some quality time together, it’s also the perfect way to begin some portraits with you, your families, and wedding party – which then allows more time after the ceremony for portraits or joining your guests at cocktail hour like Hannah and Jason did!

As Hannah’s dad walked her down the aisle, she had the view of her future husband and his son, her family members eyes filled with tears, and the beautiful blue ocean directly behind them. Her brother married them and they exchanged vows filled with sentiment and laughter. Once they were pronounced husband and wife, the lighting was perfect to finish up the remaining family portraits and the just married portraits of the two of them before they joined their guests at cocktail hour!

As they entered The Atlantic Ballroom, they saw their reception space dreams come to life. All of the details meticulously arranged, the one of a kind lights hanging above the dance floor, and the glass-sided wall overlooking the resort offered picturesque views of the cotton candy colored skies as the sun crept further and further down.

Ditch the Traditions

I’m a big supporter of cutting out any wedding day traditions that don’t feel like you. Hannah and Jason weren’t afraid to do that. They did have excellent welcome speeches and toasts before dinner, and then they danced the night away with a live band and their closest people.

In between all of these moments, I truly felt like I was hanging out with friends that I’d known forever, yet we’d only met one other time at their engagement session. Hannah treated me like one of the besties and Jason wasn’t afraid to hold back on witty jokes. We shared lots of laughs and some of our inside jokes, while creating lasting memories and photographs.

This trendy, yet timeless day was truly one for the books. I found my dream clients, my dream venue, and lifelong friends. This just goes to show that you can have a classic, elegant day and still have so much fun! You just have to see for yourself.

Timeless, colorful, unique wedding inspiration from Maine wedding photographer!

Infusing Your Wedding with Unique Elements: A Celebration of Food Trucks, Bright Colors, Music, and Heritage

Your wedding day is a reflection of your love story, personality, and journey together as a couple. It’s a celebration of your unique bond and the shared experiences that have brought you to this moment. As you plan this momentous occasion, consider infusing your wedding with distinctive elements that speak to who you are and what you love. From eclectic food trucks and vibrant colors to soul-stirring music and nods to your heritage, here’s how you can create a wedding day that is as unique and unforgettable as your love.

Embracing Culinary Creativity: Food Trucks

Gone are the days of traditional wedding catering; instead, couples are opting for more interactive and eclectic dining experiences, and food trucks offer the perfect solution. Whether you have a penchant for gourmet burgers, artisanal pizzas, or decadent desserts, incorporating food trucks into your wedding adds a fun and flavorful touch that will delight your guests.

Imagine a fleet of food trucks parked at your reception, each offering a different culinary delight for guests to enjoy. From savory sliders and fresh seafood to sweet treats and specialty cocktails, the possibilities are endless. Not only does this unconventional approach to dining add a sense of whimsy and adventure to your celebration, but it also provides an opportunity to support local vendors and showcase your favorite flavors.

Painting Your Celebration in Vivid Hues: Bright Colors

While classic whites and pastels will always have their place in wedding palettes, many couples are opting to embrace bold and vibrant colors that reflect their personalities and style. Infusing your wedding with bright hues adds a sense of joy, energy, and personality to your celebration, creating a visually stunning experience for you and your guests.

From vibrant floral arrangements and colorful table linens to bold bridesmaid dresses and vibrant decor accents, incorporating bright colors into your wedding allows you to create a celebration that is as unique and vibrant as your love. Whether you opt for a rainbow-inspired palette or choose a single standout hue to anchor your design, let your imagination run wild as you paint your wedding day in vivid shades of joy and celebration.

Setting the Mood with Soulful Sounds: Music

Music has the power to transport us, uplift us, and bring us together in moments of joy and celebration. When it comes to infusing your wedding with unique elements, consider curating a playlist that reflects your musical tastes, cultural heritage, and special moments shared as a couple.

Whether you’re dancing down the aisle to a soul-stirring ballad, serenading each other with a favorite love song during the ceremony, or rocking out to your favorite tunes at the reception, let the soundtrack of your wedding day be a reflection of who you are and what you love. Whether you opt for live musicians, a DJ, or a curated playlist, choose music that speaks to your soul and sets the perfect tone for your celebration.

Honoring Your Roots: Heritage

Your wedding day is an opportunity to honor your heritage, celebrate your cultural traditions, and pay tribute to the ancestors who came before you. Incorporating elements of your heritage into your wedding adds depth, meaning, and a sense of connection to your celebration, allowing you to weave the rich tapestry of your cultural identity into every aspect of your special day.

Whether you incorporate traditional customs and rituals into your ceremony, showcase cultural cuisine and delicacies at your reception, or incorporate symbolic colors, motifs, and decorations into your decor, let your heritage be a guiding light as you plan your wedding. By honoring your roots and celebrating your cultural identity, you create a wedding day that is not only deeply meaningful but also a beautiful expression of who you are and where you come from.

Conclusion

Benefits of Having Professional Hair/Makeup Done For Photos

Couples • March 12, 2024

Are you looking for a Maine engagement photographer that is going to help you look AND feel your best? You’re in the right place.

I’m a girls girl. I always want my people looking and feeling their best. Especially my people in the front of my camera. But, as a Maine engagement photographer who has been on both sides of the camera, I’ve learned a few things that help with this. The biggest thing is, don’t try to be something you’re not. That’s not what photos are about. Another thing I’ve learned is that if you look good, you feel good – and that radiates in your photos. Having your natural features enhanced a bit with professional hair or makeup, can help with that!

Now, if you never wear makeup, don’t go full glam and look like a new person – that’s not what I’m suggesting. But if you wear a bit sometimes, having a professional help with that can really enhance some of your natural beauty and features to shine through in the photos.

Your engagement photos capture the essence of your love story, serving as cherished mementos for years to come. While choosing the perfect location and outfits are crucial, don’t underestimate the power of professional hair and makeup for your Maine engagement session.

Explore The Benefits –

Here’s why investing in professional styling can elevate your photoshoot and leave you with stunning images that stand the test of time.

Flawless Appearance:

Professional hair and makeup artists have the skills and expertise to enhance your natural beauty and ensure you look flawless in every shot. Whether it’s achieving a soft, romantic look or a more glamorous style, they can tailor the hair and makeup to complement your features and suit the overall theme of your photo session.

    Confidence Boost:

Looking and feeling your best is key to exuding confidence during your engagement session. Professional stylists understand how to accentuate your best features while minimizing any imperfections, helping you feel more self-assured in front of the camera. When you feel confident, it shines through in your photographs, resulting in authentic and captivating images.

    Long-lasting Results:

Maine’s unpredictable weather, particularly during outdoor photoshoots, can pose challenges for maintaining hair and makeup. Professional artists use high-quality products and techniques that are designed to withstand various conditions, ensuring your look remains fresh and picture-perfect throughout the session. With their expertise, you can relax and enjoy the moment without worrying about touch-ups.

    Enhances Photography:

Professional hair and makeup not only enhance your appearance but also contribute to the overall quality of your engagement photos. Well-executed styling can accentuate your facial features, create dimension, and add visual interest to the photographs. Additionally, makeup artists understand how lighting and camera settings affect the final outcome, allowing them to create looks that photograph beautifully in any setting.

    Saves Time and Stress:

Planning an engagement session involves numerous details, and coordinating hair and makeup adds another layer of complexity. By hiring professional stylists, you can streamline the process and alleviate stress on the day of the photoshoot. They come prepared with the necessary tools and expertise to execute your desired look efficiently, allowing you to focus on enjoying the experience with your partner.

      To Summarize:

Your engagement photos are a reflection of your love story and serve as cherished keepsakes for years to come. By investing in professional hair and makeup for your photo session of any kind, you can enhance your appearance, boost your confidence, and ensure stunning results that capture the magic of this special moment in your lives. Trusting experienced stylists to perfect your look will not only elevate your photoshoot but also create timeless memories that you’ll treasure forever.

      Pro Tip –

Coordinating your wedding hair/makeup trial for the day of your engagement session is the perfect opportunity to put this to the test!

In this session you can see that it was a relaxed coastal vibe, but Julia (a professional cosmetologist) still did a natural looking hair and makeup look, which gives them an extra pop.

Coastal Engagement | Sorrento, Maine Photographer

      Couples • February 28, 2024

As a coastal Maine engagement photographer, I am always drawn to the charm and tranquility of the seaside. In the picturesque coastal landscape of Maine, where rugged cliffs meet the whispering waves of the Atlantic, love finds its perfect backdrop.

Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing an enchanting engagement session near a quaint dock, where boats swayed gently in the salty breeze, and champagne corks popped in celebration of a beautiful couple’s love story.

      The Perfect Coastal Canvas

The couple was just visiting Chris’ hometown of Sorrento (from Virginia!), they chose the perfect evening and location to capture the true essence of their engagement. Our location for the engagement session was a dock nestled in a secluded cove. The most perfect weather—a clear blue sky stretched overhead, and the sun dipped low, casting a golden hue over everything it touched.

      Champagne Dreams and Doggie Delights

They brought their furry companions, two adorable dogs who were just as eager to be a part of the festivities. As we strolled along the dock, the dogs scampered ahead, their tails wagging with joy.

We paused near a cluster of boats, the salty scent of the sea mingling with the sweet aroma of champagne. The bubbly liquid danced in the sunlight, a sparkling tribute to their love.

      Capturing The True Beauty

As a photographer, my goal is always to capture the raw emotion and genuine connection between couples. A great way to achieve this is by including some of your favorite things in your session. That could be an activity, your fur babies, or a celebratory drink! You can see how these photos helped make all of that come together perfectly to tell the story of their love and the evening we spent together.

Nubble Light Engagement | York Beach, Maine Photographer

      Couples • February 27, 2024

In the heart of York, Maine, where the rugged coastline meets the rolling waves of the Atlantic, love found its perfect playground. Last summer, I had the pleasure of capturing the romance and playfulness of one of my future wedding couples! We had the iconic backdrop of Nubble Lighthouse and the pristine shores of Sands Beach. With their tasteful outfits, infectious personalities, and upcoming wedding day in the enchanting Bar Harbor, Maine, this engagement session was a celebration of love in its purest form that my photographer heart so happy!

      Dressing For The Occassion

From the moment Kristina and Andrew stepped in front of my camera, their love story unfolded like a fairytale. Their complementary outfits perfectly mirrored their personalities—Kristina in a flowing, white sundress that caught the ocean breeze just right, and Andrew in a crisp button-down shirt paired with slacks and Gucci loafers. Later slipping into a more casual, yet tasteful look for their second location. They radiated a sense of effortless elegance and charm all around.

Nubble Lighthouse: A Beacon of Love

Our first stop was the iconic Nubble Lighthouse, its white-washed facade standing tall against the azure sky. As Kristina and Andrew twirled and giggled in each other’s arms, the lighthouse served as a timeless symbol of their enduring love and commitment. We captured moments of pure joy and affection that illuminated the landscape like the lighthouse beacon itself.

Sand Beach: Where Love Meets the Sea

Next, we ventured to the tranquil shores of Short Sands Beach. The soft golden sands met the reflecting sky on the waterline. They embraced the playful spirit of their love here by kicking off their shoes and running hand in hand along the water’s edge.

      Looking Ahead to Bar Harbor

As the sun dipped low on the horizon, we couldn’t help but feel excited for what the future held. We chatted about their plans for their upcoming wedding day in the charming town of Bar Harbor, Maine—a picturesque seaside destination known for its quaint shops, stunning vistas, and timeless beauty. With its breathtaking landscapes and romantic ambiance, Bar Harbor will be the perfect setting for their wedding day!

      Pro Tip –

Be yourself. Show off your goofy personalities to truly capture the essence of your relationship. We laughed so much during this session, and knowing their personalities more will help me tell their story on a deeper level.

I am so excited to celebrate more at the Atlantic Oceanside Hotel and Event Center in Bar Harbor this summer!

Unique Wedding Ideas | Acadia Micro-Wedding | Sweet Pea’s Cafe Reception

      Weddings • February 22, 2024

Embrace the Extraordinary: Unique Wedding Ideas for Unforgettable Celebrations

Are you dreaming of a wedding day that breaks away from tradition and embraces the extraordinary? In a world where couples are increasingly seeking unique and personalized experiences, there has never been a better time to think outside the box when it comes to saying “I do.” From breathtaking natural settings to unconventional dining experiences, the possibilities for creating a wedding that truly reflects your love story are endless. Today, we’re exploring one particularly enchanting idea: a micro-wedding in Acadia National Park followed by a family-style pizza dinner at Sweet Pea’s Cafe in Bar Harbor, Maine.

The Magic of Acadia National Park

Nestled along the rugged coast of Maine, Acadia National Park offers a stunning backdrop for couples seeking a wedding that’s both intimate and awe-inspiring. Imagine exchanging vows surrounded by towering granite cliffs, pristine forests, and the soothing sounds of crashing waves. Whether you choose to say “I do” atop Cadillac Mountain at sunrise or beneath the lush canopy of a secluded forest glade, Acadia provides a natural canvas for creating unforgettable memories.

      Intimacy in Every Detail

One of the defining characteristics of a micro-wedding is its emphasis on intimacy and meaningful connections. With a smaller guest list, couples have the opportunity to focus on the details that matter most to them, whether it’s handwritten vows exchanged in a secluded grove or personalized keepsakes for each attendee. Acadia National Park offers countless picturesque locations for your ceremony, ensuring that every moment is imbued with a sense of wonder and intimacy.

      A Deliciously Unconventional Dinner

After exchanging vows in the midst of nature’s splendor, why not continue the celebration with a dining experience that’s as unique as your love story? Picture this: long wooden tables adorned with twinkling lights, surrounded by your closest friends and family members. Instead of a formal sit-down dinner, opt for a family-style feast featuring everyone’s favorite comfort food: pizza!

A family-style pizza dinner is not only delicious and budget-friendly but also encourages conversation and camaraderie among guests. Choose a local pizzeria or catering service (like Sweet Pea’s Cafe) to provide an array of gourmet pizzas, from classic margheritas to inventive toppings inspired by local flavors. Pair it with crisp salads, savory appetizers, and refreshing beverages for a meal that satisfies both the stomach and the soul.

Making Memories to Last a Lifetime

In the end, what truly makes a wedding unforgettable are the moments shared with loved ones and the memories created along the way. By embracing unique ideas like a micro-wedding in Acadia National Park followed by a family-style pizza dinner, couples can craft a celebration that reflects their personalities, values, and love for each other.

So, if you’re ready to embark on an adventure unlike any other, consider stepping off the beaten path and into the extraordinary. Whether you’re exchanging vows atop a mountain peak or savoring slices of pizza beneath the stars, your wedding day is an opportunity to create a story that’s uniquely yours. After all, love is anything but ordinary—why should your wedding be?

Engagement Session in Bar Harbor, Maine

      Couples • February 12, 2024

As a Bar Harbor, Maine wedding photographer, I’m giving my honest thoughts on having a photo session the day you get engaged! There’s been a huge increase in the popularity of having a professional photographer capture your proposal. While that may be great for some, it may not be great for others. An alternative to that would be to have the excitement of the proposal captured later in the day!

Having an engagement photo session on the day you get engaged, instead of photographing the actual proposal, offers its own set of unique benefit that you can read about below!

      Relaxed atmosphere:

Often, capturing the actual proposal can be quite intense and emotional for both partners. Thus, opting for an engagement photo session after the proposal allows you to relax and enjoy the moment without the pressure of being in front of a camera. This can lead to more natural and candid photos.

      Time to prepare:

Planning a surprise proposal requires a lot of attention to detail. More so, it can often be quite tricky to arrange for a professional photographer to capture the moment discreetly. Given that, scheduling a separate photo session after the proposal, ensures you have enough time to plan and prepare for beautiful photos without the rush.

      Opportunity for outfit changes:

On the day of the proposal, you may be dressed casually or not in attire that you’d prefer for professional photos. To be sure everyone is looking and feeling their best, you can dress up and even have the option for outfit changes during a planned session.

      Extended celebration:

Why not continue celebrating? More so, the engagement photo session can serve as an extension of the celebration, allowing you to continue basking in the joy of the moment. It provides an opportunity to relive the excitement of the proposal and share your happiness.

      Flexibility in timing:

Proposals often happen spontaneously, and it may not always be feasible to have a photographer present at the exact moment. To avoid added stress, scheduling a separate engagement photo session gives flexibility to choose a time that works best for you and the photographer. In addition to that, it’s also ensuring optimal lighting and conditions for stunning photos.

      Get Inspired –

This couple had their surprise proposal while watching the sunrise on Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park. Later on that afternoon, they dressed up for an engagement session in Downtown Bar Harbor along the Shore Path to capture the fresh excitement. After their session, they had dinner reservations at the Reading Room in the Bar Harbor Inn. They got to dine and overlook the harbor where we just did their session.

Intimate Elopement at Mountain Top Resort | Vermont Wedding

      Elopements • February 9, 2024

An intimate mountain elopement is always a YES in my book, and the Mountain Top Resort in Chittenden, Vermont is the icing on the cake! If you want the most relaxing elopement, take your two closest on a road-trip, stay at a resort that covers all of your vendor needs, and spend the morning of your wedding day relaxing in the spa.

Mountain Top Resort is just a short drive from the one and only, Woodstock Vermont. It’s nestled in the most serene mountains, surrounded by acres of fields and 360 views. This venue is the perfect to place to host your large weddings in their event barn, or your intimate celebration in their on-site restaurant.

More so, the helpful staff will assist with all of your coordination needs for the special day. Including shuttling you around the property – from the horse fields for your first look, to the hilltop ceremony site, and to your lower reception space.

      Pro Elopement Tip:

Consider adding special touches to enhance your intimate elopement experience.

      For example:

      • Spa treatments
      • Outdoor activities like hiking, skiing, boating
      • Champagne toast

Starting the day with a massage and ending with dinner, champagne, and cake made for the most relaxing day. This Maine couple surely indulged in the quaint Vermont mountain elopement experience.

I am so excited to be back at this luxury wedding venue in 2025!

If you’re looking for a wedding or elopement photographer to help make sure your day is laid-back and fun, you’re in the right place! I will travel all over to make this happen! Click here to connect and chat about your dream destination and intimate mountain elopement!
